It's ME! Barbie!!

 It's ME!  Barbie!!!  I'm 50 and I'm FAB!
In 1959, a new fashion doll appeared on Toys ‘R Us store shelves, creating a sensation and becoming an instant favorite among generations of little girls. Barbie just celebrated her 50th birthday and she is looking more fabulous than ever.
Barbie has come a long way in the past 50 years.  Barbie left the her mansion to join the workforce.  She's modeled, she's owned a pet shop, she owned a car dealership (that's where she got all her great jeeps, sportscars and her mini-van from).
I think she even sold MaryKay for awhile so she could earn a "Pink Cadi."
Barbie has been a busy Gal!  She's become more than a just a childhood play toy.  This Barbie is the 2009 replica of the original Barbie doll.  The original Barbie was sold in 1959 for $3.00.  Toys-R-Us had a limited promotion in March in which they offered these retro Barbie's for the original price -- $3.00.  This was offered while supplies lasted.
They were also kind enough to provide a couple to Root & Sprout, Grow Together and ME to offer as GiveAways in honor of Barbie.
Whether you are a Barbie collector or know a little Barbie fan of your own, you don't want to miss this GiveAway!  Thanks Toys'R'Us and Happy Birthday Barbie!
FYI, if you wish to purchase this Barbie she is still available for $12.99; the original collector Barbie from 1959 is also available for $49.99.

You don't have to enter me, but I played with my sister's Barbies. Like every other 10 year old boy, I wanted to know what was under Barbie's, and other girl's, skirts. :)

Aw, come on Gary. You don't know any kids in the neighborhood? I know you have friends with little girls who would love a free Barbie!

I have a great Barbie story. I used to write a weekly humor column in the newspaper I worked for, and one week, I wrote one about Barbie, after I had been shopping for some of her crap for my niece. *Anyway* I started wondering how the heck did Barbie get all this stuff with no job, and then it hit me, when I saw her "home office" -- it converted to a bedroom. That's whn I realized that Barbie was a call girl. :-) ... And yes, I *did* get some letters from Barbie lovers (and not the kind who were willing to pay $100 an hour). The lesson learned -- never make fun of Barbie ... or call her a hooker. :-)

Pro-HMKR ROFLMAO! Too funny!! Great story share; too bad you didn't know me back then. I could have saved you the ramifications on that one!

LOL! So, do you want to win one for a gift for someone? Or, are you just commenting ('cuz you are so great at commenting!) :-)

I wanna win!!! (I have a very competitive streak!). Just checked, and I like Barbie Collector Doll Pink Label 50th Anniversary Barbie Doll the best. (Although, she almost looks like a drag queen), but I will go with that one. Heading over to R&S in a bit after I do a quick Friday clean downstairs. BTW baked ham tonight with a bourbon and maple glaze!

First of all I was referred to by Jay. Secondly I will add you to my blogs that I read. Thirdly my favorite Barbie doll memory when I was younger was having over 50 barbie dolls.

My favorite memory was when my mother would let me play with her collection. I loved incorporating her dolls from the 50's to my dolls I had in the 80's. I was a special treat to play with HER dolls.

When I outgrew Barbie I became a fan of shoes. When all I had were boys I lived vicariously through my friends daughters by buying them barbies and all their accessories.

Wow loved your post!

Just checked out Root and Sprout. Wow, I was *very* impressed with the number of articles in one month and the wide variety of topics.

In that I am barren (except for an 8 lb Maltese) the non-kid posts caught my eye the most (and frankly, don't even people with kids wannna think outside the kid box once in awhile? God knows I would.) :-)

So along those lines -- and before I knew you wrote it -- the "Supper Swap" article really caught my eye. As I posted in my comment, it brought back fond memories from about 10 years ago, when two other couples and us got tgether once a month, with each couple hosting one month. The host made the entree, while the other two couples brought a side and an appetizer. It was easy-peasy entertaining, and no one was exhausted (or broke). Gee, I should even blog about the idea.

And I *loved* the idea of even two people getting together and making one dinner each, split two ways. What a great way to get a day off from cooking once a week, once every two weeks or just once a month -- and get some visiting in to boot!

Your article was truly inspiring, and I am going to do a post along the same lines, and make sure I pimp out you and Root and Sprout. I was really that impressed.

:-)

My favorite Barbie memory involved the pizza hut Barbie. I had never played a lot with barbies as a child because my sisters (older) always stole my favorites..haha. I worked at a Pizza hut at 16 and bought my very own Pizza Hut Barbie that stayed in my jeep for 5 years hanging from my rearview . We went on many trips. I loved that Barbie.

My favorite memory is the Christmas I got "Eskimo" Barbie. She had the prettiest hair and face and I loved her clothes, her white parka with fake grey fur around the collar.
